About Harriet Argue

Harriet Argue was the owner of Truffles Café and Catering. She was also involved in menu development and catering at Madison's Bistro and Mediterra. We welcome her back to Dorothy Lane's Culinary Center to share her expertise with Greek Cuisine. Moving here from Los Angeles from a large Greek family, she started a California Deli Café. Her restaurants were known for their quality food, and innovative menus. Harriet was in the catering and restaurant business for over 30 years. She has taught cooking classes in the Dayton area for many years.

Transport yourself to the Mediterranean as Harriet Argue demonstrates the art of Greek Cuisine, from vibrant mezze to hearty main dishes and decadent dessert. We'll begin our culinary journey with traditional appetizers including a creamy Feta Dip and Kalamata Tapenade served with crispy Pita Chips. Dakos Salad is a refreshing combination of crisp Vegetables, Feta, and a bright Greek Olive Oil and Citrus Dressing. Moussaka is a beloved Greek comfort food featuring layers of seasoned beef, tender eggplant, potatoes, and velvety béchamel sauce. We’ll finish with Karithopita, a heavenly walnut cake drenched in honey syrup. This menu will be paired with wine.

Blue Zone Kitchen: Secrets from Ikaria

Join Harriet Argue to discover the delicious, health-promoting cuisine of Ikaria, the remarkable Greek island known as one of the world's Blue Zones where people regularly live into their 90s and beyond. Harriet will demonstrate how to prepare dishes that reflect the island's culinary traditions. We'll start with Zucchini Fritters served with a tangy Yogurt Sauce. Succulent Branzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass) will be roasted with fresh Herbs, and drizzled with a bright, creamy Lemon Sauce, and Zucchini, Potatoes, Onions, and Eggplant will be roasted alongside for a lightly crisp, tender, and caramelized result. A refreshing Lemon Yogurt Cake will finish this simply delicious, uncomplicated, nutritious meal. This menu will be served with wine.

Join us as Harriet Argue demonstrates cherished traditions of her Greek heritage with this Easter celebration menu. She'll demonstrate the technique of working with delicate phyllo dough to create Spanakopita, the classic spinach and feta cheese pastry for a delicious start to the meal. Avgolemono is a silky lemon soup enriched with eggs and tender orzo pasta. The entrée will be perfectly roasted Leg of Lamb, infused with fresh herbs and served alongside golden Roasted Potatoes—a beautiful centerpiece of any Easter Table. A traditional Greek Salad provides a crisp, fresh accompaniment. For dessert, discover how to craft an elegant Phyllo Napoleon layered with rich Custard. This menu will be paired with wine.
