Rose is a skilled bread shop baker at Dorothy Lane Market and a proud graduate of Johnson & Wales University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. Her passion for the craft began early, learning alongside her mother in the kitchen, where she discovered the joy of serving others through thoughtfully made desserts. With formal culinary training and hands-on professional experience, Rose brings both technical expertise and an engaging teaching style to her classes. Cake decorating is her primary passion, with a strong focus on precision, creativity, and foundational technique, but her skill set also spans plated desserts and artisan breads. Rose is deeply committed to helping home bakers build confidence, master core skills, and create beautiful, bakery-quality results.

In this introduction to cake decorating class, you'll gain confidence and enjoy a creative hobby with delicious results. Under the step-by-step instructions of DLM's own pastry artist Rose Hockman, you'll practice essential techniques and learn a how to achieve professional results. Learn how to level, fill, and ice your cake for a smooth, professional finish. Try your hand at creating clean and creative cake board designs. Practice writing techniques to personalize your cakes with style. Get familiar with different icing consistencies and piping tips as you create flowers, leaves, balloons, polka dots, rosettes, and even basket weaves. Each student will work on their own cake. All materials and tools are provided.
Come ready to learn, decorate, and have fun! Light snacks and beverages will be served.

Sip on coffee, juice or a mimosa while you explore cake decorating and edible artistry in this fun, hands-on workshop. With expert guidance by DLM's own pastry artist Rose Hockman, you'll treat your cake as a blank canvas as you personalize it with painting and piping seasonal or themed designs. No experience needed, just a playful spirit and a love for sweets and creativity.
Each student will decorate their own cake for two and then take it home. All tools and materials are provided. Come ready to sip, create, and celebrate your inner artist! Light snacks, coffee and a mimosa included.

Culinary Center Class Cancellation & Registration Policy
Culinary Center class registrations may be cancelled up to 7 days prior to the scheduled class date to receive a full refund, with proper notification. Cancellations made with notification after the 7-day deadline are eligible for credit toward future culinary class registrations if notification is given prior to the day of a class. If you are unable to attend any class, you are welcome to send a substitute in your place. To give proper notifications for a cancellation or notice of a substitution, please contact the culinary center location where your class is taking place. Any no-call, no-show participants forfeit refunds or class credits. The DLM Culinary Center reserves the right to cancel a class, when necessary, due to inclement weather, emergencies, or insufficient enrollment, and may also substitute instructors or food items when required. In the event that a class is cancelled, registered students will receive a full refund or credit, as applicable.
